A sunflower seed oil production line turns oilseed sunflower into crude or refined oil in three stages: preparation (cleaning, destoning, dehulling, flaking, cooking), extraction (screw pressing for 1-20 T/H seed input, or solvent extraction for 50-500 TPD), and refining (degumming, dewaxing, bleaching, deodorization for 30-300 TPD). Sunflower oil needs a dewaxing step because the wax it carries turns the oil cloudy at low temperature.

What Is a Sunflower Seed Oil Production Line?

Sunflower seed is one of the easiest oilseeds to press and one of the hardest to refine well. The seed carries 40-50% oil, a fibrous hull that absorbs oil if it is crushed with the kernel, and a wax fraction that makes bottled oil go hazy in a cold room. A line that ignores any of the three gives either low yield, dark crude oil, or a product that fails a chill test.

Fangchuangjie builds the whole chain under one engineering team: intake and cleaning, dehulling and separation, flaking and cooking, screw pressing or solvent extraction, and continuous refining with a dedicated dewaxing section. Capacity is matched to your seed supply, not to a fixed catalogue size.

Process Flow: Four Sections, One Line

1. Seed preparation

Cleaning, destoning and magnetic separation remove sand, stones and metal before any kernel is broken. Hull content in sunflower runs high, so dehulling and kernel/hull separation follow, then flaking to a uniform thickness and cooking to adjust moisture and temperature for pressing.

2. Pressing (1-20 T/H)

Single or double screw presses take the flaked, cooked seed down to 8-12% residual oil in the cake. This route suits estate mills, cooperatives and plants up to roughly 30 TPD where a solvent plant cannot be justified.

3. Solvent extraction (50-500 TPD)

For larger volumes the press cake goes to a solvent extraction plant, where residual oil drops below 1%. Desolventizing, evaporation and stripping recover the solvent and give consistent crude oil quality at scale.

4. Oil Refiningand dewaxing (30-300 TPD)

Degumming removes phospholipids, dewaxing removes the wax that clouds sunflower oil, bleaching removes colour bodies, and deodorization strips free fatty acids and odour. Dewaxing is the step most often skipped by suppliers who copy a generic refining flow.

Why Buy the Line From Fangchuangjie

  • One contract from seed to refined oil — Preparation, pressing, extraction and refining are engineered together, so interfaces between sections do not become your problem.
  • Dewaxing designed in, not added later — Sunflower wax is handled in the refining flow from the start, including the crystallizer and filter duty that step requires.
  • Capacity matched to your seed supply — We size the line to the tonnage you can actually buy each season, instead of pushing a standard model that runs half empty.
  • Factory acceptance test before shipment — Each line is assembled and run in our workshop, and you receive test records and video before the containers leave.
  • Commissioning and operator training — Engineers on site for installation, commissioning and training, with remote support afterwards.

Applications

  • Estate or cooperative mill, 1-5 T/H pressing, crude oil sold locally or toll-refined
  • Regional edible oil plant, 50-200 TPD, press plus solvent extraction with continuous refining
  • High-oleic sunflower programme, where oil stability and cold-room clarity both matter
  • Off-grade confectionery seed, recovered into edible oil instead of being discarded

FAQ

What capacity do I need for a sunflower oil line?

Start from the seed you can collect in a season, not from the machine size. As a guide, 1 T/H pressing equals roughly 24 TPD, so a 5 T/H press suits about 100-120 TPD of seed input. Above roughly 30 TPD, solvent extraction usually pays back the extra investment through lower residual oil in the cake.

Is pressing enough, or do I need solvent extraction?

Pressing alone leaves 8-12% oil in the cake. That is acceptable for small mills selling cake locally, and expensive at scale. Solvent extraction brings residual oil below 1%, which is why plants above 50 TPD normally combine press and extraction.

Why does sunflower oil need dewaxing?

Sunflower oil contains wax that is soluble when hot and crystallises when cold, making the oil cloudy and failing chill tests. Dewaxing cools the oil, crystallises the wax and removes it by filtration before the filling stage.

What is the difference between cold pressing and hot pressing sunflower?

Cold pressing skips cooking and keeps temperature low, giving a premium oil at lower yield. Hot pressing cooks the flaked seed first, which raises yield and lowers residual oil but darkens the crude oil and needs fuller refining. Many plants run both: cold press for a premium grade, hot press or extraction for the rest.
