Sesame Oil Plant | Roasting, Pressing and Filtering Line
A sesame oil production line turns sesame seed into aroma oil or refined oil in four steps: cleaning and destoning, roasting (gentle cooking for neutral oil), screw pressing at 1-20 T/H, then either settling and filtration for aroma oil, or solvent extraction and light refining for neutral oil. Roasting temperature is the one variable that decides whether the product is dark fragrant sesame oil or a pale neutral grade.
What Is a Sesame Oil Production Line?
Sesame behaves differently from other oilseeds on a press line. The seed is small and soft, it carries 50-55% oil, and it holds natural antioxidants (sesamol and sesamolin) that keep the oil stable without heavy refining. That last point matters: the reason sesame oil resists oxidation is mostly the seed itself, not the processing.
The consequence is that a sesame line is not a scaled-down sunflower line. Screen openings, destoner settings and roasting control all change, and the refining section is deliberately kept light. Fangchuangjie engineers preparation, roasting, pressing, extraction and refining as one chain, so the aroma route and the neutral route can both be run from the same plant.
Process Flow: Four Sections, One Line
1. Cleaning and destoning
Sesame is small and light, so screens, aspirators and the destoner are set differently from soybean or sunflower lines. Stones and metal must come out before roasting, because a burnt stone scorches the batch and shows up as dark specks in the oil.
2. Roasting or cooking
For aroma oil the seed is roasted to develop colour and flavour; for neutral oil the seed goes through a gentler cooking step. Temperature and residence time here decide the final product more than any other setting on the line.
3. Pressing (1-20 T/H)
Single or double screw presses take the prepared seed down to 7-10% residual oil in the cake. Sesame cake is protein rich and sells as feed or fertiliser, which is why small mills often stop at this stage.
4. Filtering, extraction or refining
Aroma oil is settled and filtered, not deodorised, because deodorisation strips the aroma you just paid to develop. Neutral oil goes to solvent extraction (50-500 TPD) and light refining: degumming, deacidification, bleaching and deodorisation at 30-300 TPD.

Why Buy the Line From Fangchuangjie
- Roasting treated as a product decision — The roaster is specified around the grade you want to sell, not bolted on afterwards, because aroma is the product.
- Two routes from one plant — Aroma oil and neutral oil can both run on the same line, so you are not locked into one market.
- Light refining, deliberately — The refining section is sized for sesame, not copied from a sunflower plant, so aroma and natural stability survive.
- Works at small capacity — From 1 T/H, which suits cooperatives and estate mills that cannot justify a large extraction plant.
- Test run before shipment — The line is assembled and run in our workshop, with test records and video before containers leave.
Applications
- Aroma oil workshop upgrading from water extraction to a scalable press line
- Cooperative or estate mill, 1-5 T/H, selling filtered oil locally
- Regional edible oil plant, 50-200 TPD, running neutral sesame oil with extraction and refining
- Export-oriented producer needing consistent colour, aroma and shelf life batch after batch
FAQ
Can one line make both aroma oil and neutral oil?
Yes, if the two routes are planned from the start. Same press, different roasting parameters, and two downstream paths: settling and filtration for aroma oil, extraction plus light refining for neutral oil. Retrofitting the second route later is what usually goes wrong.
Water extraction or screw pressing for sesame?
Traditional water extraction gives the strongest aroma at low yield and small batch size. Screw pressing scales: 1 T/H equals roughly 24 TPD, and it is the route that supports export volumes. Many producers keep a small water extraction unit for a premium line and press the rest.
Does sesame oil need refining?
Aroma oil does not. It is settled and filtered, because deodorisation removes the roasted notes. Neutral sesame oil is refined normally: degumming, deacidification, bleaching, deodorisation. Sesame already carries natural antioxidants, so it needs less help with stability than most oils.
How much oil is left in the cake?
7-10% after a single pressing, because sesame starts at 50-55% oil. Above roughly 50 TPD, adding solvent extraction brings residual oil below 1% and usually pays for itself.
